Prawn Pilau
I think my family can never say "NO" to sea-food. They can literally eat sea-food any day. Sea-food is so versatile and you can use it in different cuisines. Also it gives any dish a fresh taste.Now when it comes to Prawn Pilau, we love it spicy. It is important to season the Prawns separately so that it gives a nice flavour. I have used green herbs for the Pilau so that the freshness of the Prawns is levelled up. Do try this easy recipe if you are a Prawn lover, because it is simple and extremely delicious.
Ingredients
Ingredients for Marination of the Prawns
- 1.5 tbsp Ginger & Garlic Paste
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- Salt According to taste
Ingredients for the Prawn Pilau
- 1 kg Prawns Cleaned, De-veined and Washed
- 2 Onions Medium Sized (Finely sliced)
- 2 Tomatoes Medium (Chopped)
- 3 Potatoes Cut in 4s
- 1 tbsp Ginger & Garlic Paste
- 3 cups Rice Wash and soak for about 15 minutes
- 1/2 cup Fresh Coriander
- 1/4 cup Mint leaves
- 8-10 Green Chillies Use half for the Green Chutney paste and half for the Pilau
- 1.5 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tsp Black Peppercorns
- 2 Black Cardamom
- 1 Cinammon Stick
- 4-5 Cloves
- Salt According to taste

Instructions for Marinating the Prawns
- Mix all the ingredients in the prawns and let it marinate for about 15 minutes
Instructions for the Preparation of the Pilau
- Fry the Onions until golden brown
- In a separate dish, par boil the Potatoes and keep aside
- Now add the whole spices and fry until aromatic
- Add the Ginger and Garlic paste and fry well for about a minute
- Now add the tomatoes and fry for about a minute and cover the dish
- Keep the dish covered for about 5 minutes on medium-low flame so that the tomatoes soften
- In the meanwhile make the green chutney paste by blending the Coriander leaves, Mint leaves and 4-5 chillies together. Add about 1/2 cup water when blending it
- Now fry the tomatoes on high flame until it is blended and a thick gravy is formed
- Now add the Green Chutney paste to the mixture
- Fry well until aromatic and the oil starts to float
- Now add the Prawns and the par boiled potatoes and fry for about 2-3 minutes until the colour changes
- Now add about 5-6 cups of water and bring it to a boil
- Strain the soaked Rice and add it to the Prawn stock
- Cover the dish and let it cook on medium flame
- Once the water has evaporated and the rice is cooked and the prawns have got a nice colour to them, your Prawn Pilau is ready
- Serve with some Salad and Raita
