Seafood is cooked differently in the Sub-Continent, it is marinated and cooked with lots of herbs and spices. There are many variations for cooking fish, it can be deep fried, pan fried or even cooked in a curry. For this recipe I have used boneless fish which is marinated with quite a few spices. This is deep fried and then served with a spicy Chutney.
This Desi Fish Fry is inspired from Karachi's very famous Fish Fry -Yadgar Fish. Their Fish is quite popular not only amongst Karachiites but also people from other cities travelling to Karachi make sure to have this delicious speciality.
This dish is very simple and easy to cook, it just needs some time for marination. The spicy Chutney adds a kick to the flavour of the fish. This can be served as an appetizer or a snack,

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 kg Boneless fish
  • 2 tbsp Cornflour
  • 3 tbsp Flour/Maida
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 tsp Chilli Flakes
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp Tumeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala powder
  • 1 tbsp Roasted and crushed Corriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp Carom Seeds (Ajwain)
  • Salt According to taste
  • Chaat Masala As desired

Spicy Chutney/Sauce

  • 1/2 cup Tamarind pulp
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 Green Chilli
  • 1/2 Bunch Corrainder
  • Salt According to taste

Instructions
 

  • Boneless fish to be cut into fingers or small pieces as desired
  • Add Garlic paste to the fish and mix welll
  • Add all the spices, lemon juice, cornflour and and flour to the fish
  • Mix everything well and add 1-2 tbsp of water to the fish
  • The batter needs to be thick, don't add too much water as the fish will also leave some water during marination
  • Leave the fish to marinate for 30 minutes in the fridge
  • Heat Oil in a deep dish (Oil should be enough for deep frying)
  • Now deep fry the fish until it is cooked and crispy
  • Serve hot and sprinkle Chaat Masala and squeeze lemon juice generously . You can serve it with Chutney and fresh salad.

For the Spicy Chutney/Sauce just blend all the ingredients together
