Potato Chops (Mince and Potato Cutlets)
Potato Chops has been a childhood favorite for both myself and my hubby. Even today whenever I make these, both the hubby and my son just can't resist these delicious delights.This is a fairly simple recipe to execute and can be made in batches and you may freeze them for later use. I have used Mince Beef filling. You may use Lamb or Chicken filling as well. Also try to use a good quality bread crumb when frying so that your Potato Chops are crispy on the outside.Do try this dish as it is a unique Cutlets combo which will be loved by all at home especially the kids.
Ingredients
Ingredients for the Filling
- 500 gms Mince
- 1 tbsp Ginger & Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Green Chillies Finely chopped
- 2 Onions (Medium) Finely chopped
- 2 Tomatoes (Medium) Finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Red Chili Powder
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper Powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder
- 1 tbsp Fresh Coriander Chopped
- Salt According to taste
Ingredients for Potato Cutlet
- 4-5 Potatoes (Large) Boiled and Peeled
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper Powder
- Salt According to taste
- Bread Crumbs As required
- 2 Eggs Well Beaten
Instructions
Instructions for preparation of the filling
- Pour some oil in a pan and fry the mince until it changes colour
- Add the Ginger & Garlic Paste and fry for about 5-7 minutes
- Add some water about 1/2 cup and cover the mince until cooked. You may add more water from time to time if required
- Now add the chopped Green Chillies and the rest of the spices including Salt and fry for about 2-3 minutes until the spices are well blended
- Now add the Onions and fry well until the Onions turn translucent
- Now add the tomatoes and fry well until the Tomatoes are soft and well blended
- The mixture needs to be dry and not oily
- In the end add the chopped Coriander and mix well
- Let the mixture cool down before making the cutlets
Instructions for preparation of the Potato Cutlets
- Mash the Boiled Potatoes
- Add the Salt and Pepper to it
- The Mash Potatoes must be cooled down completely before making the cutlets
- Now make round balls for the Potato Chops
- Flatten it and add the Mince in the middle. Around 1 tbsp should be good
- Now close the Potato to form a ball with the filling inside
- Flatten the ball slightly
- Now repeat the process until all the Potato Chops are formed
- Now refrigerate the Potato Chops for an hour before frying
- You may freeze the left overs
- Coat the individual Potato Chops in the beat egg
- Then coat it with bread crumbs until well coated
- Now fry the Potato Chops in Shallow oil. You may also air fry it for a healthy version
- Serve hot with some spicy and tangy sauce
