Khattay Aloo is another popular Street Food. This spicy and tangy dish is very simple and easy to make. It literally takes me less than 10 minutes to cook it with the boiled Potatoes. This is a perfect side dish to go with your Daal and Rice or any Curries. You can also enjoy this as a Chai-Time Snack.This is a special Memoni style Recipe, with simple ingredients. I also remember that during Ramadan, this dish is sold at the Hawkers on the Roadside in Karachi. I like to have this dish a bit warm but you may also have it cold. It is a quick and easy dish to prepare as a Side dish for a party or High-Tea.Do give it a try, it will surely tantalize your taste buds 🙂
Ingredients
- 1/2 kg Potatoes Medium sized cut in halves
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 tbsp Ginger & Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Chilli Flakes
- 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/4 tsp Tandoori/Red Food colour
- 1/4 cup Tamarind Paste
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1.5 tsp Roasted Coriander Powder
- 1 tsp Roasted Cumin Powder
- 2 tbsp Coriander Chopped
- Salt According to taste
Garnishing
- Onions (Sliced) As required
- Coriander (Chopped) As required
- Chaat Masala As required
Instructions
- Peel and boil the Potatoes and keep aside
- Heat the oil in a pan
- Add the Ginger and Garlic Paste and stir for about a minute
- Now add all the spices and sauté for another minute
- Pour the Tamarind Paste and mix for about 2-3 minutes
- Add Salt and the Food Colour and mix well
- Add the Boiled Potatoes to the mixture and stir well for about 2 minutes
- Add the Chopped Coriander and stir again
- Khattay Aloo is now ready and can be garnished with Onions, Coriander and Chaat Masala
- Serve this spicy and tangy dish with any Curries, Daal or Vegetable dish or just have it as a snack
