Hyderabadi Khatti Daal
This is a very popular Hyderabadi style Daal Recipe. I am sure you all make Daal Chawal at home and this one is with a little variation. This is quite simple to make and I am sure it will be loved by all at home.This Daal Chawal combination is best complemented with some pickle and fresh salad.
Ingredients
Ingredients for Boiling the Daal
- 1 cup Masoor Daal Orange colour Daal
- 1 cup Moong Daal Yellow colour Daal
- 1 cup Tomatoes Chopped
- 1 tbsp Tamarind Paste
- 1 tsp Ginger & Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
- Salt According to taste
Tarka/Tempering
- 1/2 cup Oil
- 4-5 Cloves Garlic Thinly Sliced
- 6-7 Curry Leaves
- 3-4 Green Chillies
- 4-5 Red button Chillies
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
Instructions
- Wash the Daal and soak for about 15 minutes
- Boil the Daal with all the ingredients mentioned besides the Tamarind pulp
- Cook it until the Daal is tender
- Now blend the Daal using a Potato Masher until smooth, you may use a blender but I personally don't like to blend the Daal completely
- Now add the Tamarind pulp to the blended Daal, cover and bring it to a boil
- You may add water to get the required consistency or leave as is
Tarka/Tempering
- Now pour Oil in a pan
- Add all the tempering/tarka ingredients
- Once it starts sputtering, pour the tempering/tarka over the Daal
- Stir the Daal and cook for 1-2 minutes
- Garnish with some chopped Coriander leaves
- Serve with some Rice, Papadum, Pickle and Salad
